About
Amber Moehamadkasbi is a master’s student in Sociology at the University of Amsterdam and an aspiring researcher. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences from the same university, where she developed a broad academic foundation that bridges anthropology, sociology, political science, and psychology.
Her current research interests center on postcolonialism and the history of Javanese forced labour—topics deeply intertwined with her own family history. As a descendant of Javanese contract labourers and enslaved people, Amber explores the enduring effects of colonial transcultural trauma and the social inequalities that stem from it.
Beyond her academic work, she is actively engaged in initiatives that preserve and celebrate Javanese-Surinamese cultural heritage in the Netherlands, combining scholarship with community involvement.
